Following the indefinite postponement of the training of the Adhoc Staff in the conduct of the 2023 national population and housing census in Nigeria, one can't but wonder about the preparedness and willingness of the Nationa Population Commission [NPC] to conduct a credible national population and housing census on the already scheduled date. You remember that the commission had scheduled the exercise for the 28th of March to the 2nd of April 2023 but had to shift it to the 3rd of May to the 6th of May 2023 to enable them to prepare adequately in other to deliver a credible census data that can be reliable for the country's baseline economic planning and national development.

Unfortunately, upon till today, a substantial date is yet to be announced by the commission for the training of enumerators, supervisors, and other special ad-hoc functionaries for the 2023 census. It will interest you to note that the said all-important training has been postponed 3 times already and even online refresher training for the facilitator billed for Wednesday 19th of April 2023 was again shifted to 24th of April 2023 with no end to postponements at sight
As we continue to keep faith with the NPC to surprise Nigerians and doubters who do not yet believe that the commission can deliver on her promises, we urge them [NPC] to take the training of the census functionaries seriously as the success or failure of the exercise depends largely on it. We also urge Nigerians, foreigners, and partners to keep faith with the NPC, and for all, especially the ad-hoc functionaries to participate actively in making the long-awaited Nigeria's first digital census a success.
