Thousands of believers gather for Shiloh, an annual event hosted by the Living Faith Church (also known as Winners Chapel) at Canaanland, Nigeria. This year, Shiloh 2024 has been tagged “Ever Winning Wisdom,” a theme that beckons on each of us to discover, receive, and walk in the exceptional wisdom that wins—always, despite obstacles. Shiloh is always a time of reformation and transformation; Shiloh 2024, in its usual manner, promises to be a life-transforming experience. The need for divine wisdom has never been more urgent as the world grapples with economic downturns, food insecurity, and political unrest.
Wisdom is far more than knowledge or experience. It is a divine gift, a supernatural insight into life’s challenges and opportunities. Ever Winning Wisdom refers to wisdom that not only brings success but sustains it across generations. It’s the kind of wisdom that sets apart people like Joseph, Esther, and Solomon—men and women who achieved remarkable things because they were guided by something beyond ordinary human insight. Proverbs 4:7 states, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom; and with all thy getting, get understanding.” In other words, wisdom is paramount, and true success flows from it.
Wisdom, a gift from God, is the ability to apply knowledge and understanding to practical situations. It's the discerning mind that perceives opportunities, navigates challenges, and makes sound decisions. Throughout history, countless individuals have demonstrated the power of wisdom to overcome adversity and achieve greatness, transforming their lives and the lives of those around them. Let’s delve into a few:
Joseph’s Wisdom in Governance: Despite being sold into slavery and wrongly imprisoned, Joseph rose to become the second most powerful man in Egypt. His wisdom in interpreting Pharaoh's dreams and managing the nation’s resources saved Egypt—and many surrounding nations—from a severe famine. Joseph’s life teaches us that wisdom often brings solutions to global crises. In Genesis 41:39, Pharaoh says, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?” The Spirit of God is the Spirit of the Ever-Winning Wisdom we are talking about. Joseph’s wisdom was not only practical but divinely inspired.
Solomon’s Wisdom in Rulership: Solomon, known as the wisest man of his time, asked God for wisdom rather than wealth or power. As a result, he received both wisdom and unmatched prosperity. In 1 Kings 3:12-13, God promises Solomon, “I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.” His wisdom led to peace and prosperity, setting a legacy for the kingdom of Israel. Experience and the story of Solomon show us that with wisdom comes wealth. Perhaps you are chasing after wealth and riches; it may remain elusive until you get this Ever-Winning Wisdom. Remember, “Seek first the kingdom of God, and every other thing will be added to you,” just as wealth and riches were added unto Solomon.
Esther’s Wisdom in Crisis: Esther used wisdom to navigate a deadly situation where her people faced genocide. With grace and strategic timing, she presented her case before the king, saving the Jews from destruction. Esther’s wisdom illustrates the importance of timing, courage, and humility in handling crises. In Esther 4:14, Mordecai reminds her, “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Her example shows how wisdom can bring deliverance to an entire nation.
Daniel, the Godly Statesman: Possessing divine wisdom, Daniel excelled in the Babylonian court, interpreting dreams and foretelling the future. His unwavering faith and wisdom earned him respect and influence.
These biblical stories are more than tales from history—they are blueprints for how we, too, can walk in Ever Winning Wisdom in today’s complex world.
In times of food insecurity, economic challenges, and social upheaval, Ever Winning Wisdom is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. Here are some ways to seek and nurture this wisdom:
James 1:5 tells us, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” Prayer is the first step. God is the source of true wisdom, and as we draw closer to Him, He illuminates our path with insights that cannot be found elsewhere. Another way of seeking God's wisdom is by Bible study. Immerse yourself in God's Word, the ultimate source of wisdom, as well as meditation. Spend quiet time reflecting on God's Word and allowing His truth to penetrate your soul.
Wisdom often flows from humility. Proverbs 11:2 reminds us, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” A humble heart is teachable and open to correction, and it allows us to see life from God’s perspective rather than our limited understanding or perspectives.
Wisdom is closely tied to understanding God’s Word. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” The Bible offers timeless principles on finances, relationships, health, and purpose. Studying the Word and meditating on it helps us align our actions with God’s truth.
Value, and Learn from Wise Counsel:
Proverbs 15:22 advises, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Seeking the counsel of experienced, God-fearing individuals can guide us in making wise decisions. These individuals act as a support system and help us see perspectives we might miss on our own.
Consider the long-term consequences of your choices. Respond wisely to life challenges and handle adversity with grace and patience. Prioritize your spiritual, physical, and emotional well-being.
Wisdom calls us to act boldly and step out in faith, trusting that God will guide us. In Hebrews 11, the heroes of faith often acted with wisdom to fulfil God’s purposes. Living by faith allows us to take God-inspired steps toward solutions, even when the path seems unclear.
Acknowledge that you don't have all the answers and rely on God's wisdom. Be teachable and embrace a teachable spirit and be open to learning from others.
Proverbs 19:2 warns, “Desire without knowledge is not good—how much more will hasty feet miss the way!” Patience is essential in acquiring wisdom. Rushing into decisions can lead to regrets. Waiting on God and learning from every situation often brings deeper insight.
